this world is full of evil. of rape, kidnapping and murder. darkness it seems, lurks around every corner. safety is one thing that you can never take for granted. how will you keep yourself safe? let alone the safety of your fellows. what side will you choose? will you choose darkness, forever to lurk in the shadows, will you be a victim of such cruelty and pain, or will you be a hero, one who stands up to the evil, one who will protect others from what is happening? only you can decide.

I tear my heart open, I sew myself shut
My weakness is that I care too much
And my scars remind me that the past is real
I tear my heart open just to feel

He flared out his wings, letting the air catch under the velveteen skin stretched between each spine as he brought them down in a swift stroke. The first flap was strong enough to get him slightly airborne as his wings cut back up through the air in preparation for the second beat. Powerful, yet elegant, his wings were the only part of his he truly liked. They were the only thing about him he found…flawless. Steadily, the fairy rose into the air, his wings creating a soft rhythm as he climbed higher. He did not shoot up like he normally did, no. Caleb was a gentleman. He held out his hand politely to Casera, his shy smile turning to a gentle one, slightly more confident than before. But only very slightly.

“The place I found isn’t too far off, but the judging by the air currents at night, we might have to fly against the wind. If you should tire, we can stop and rest. I would have no objections.”

It was the most Caleb had ever spoken. And it felt weird. But it was a good kind of weird. It felt like he was finally living. Like he had become something a bit more than just a living, breathing hunk of meat chucked onto the earth. It made him feel, normal. Only a little, but it was still something. At that moment it felt like an enormous weight had been lifted from his shoulders, like whatever burden his past had carried didn’t matter anymore. The feeling was refreshing. He liked it.
